Artists, Go Home

Just came across this article about a problem that a number of Celebrity Series artists as well as our performing arts presenter colleagues in Boston have encountered. That is, the difficulty international artists now have obtaining visas to perform in the United States. From complicated regulations to processing backlogs to clerical error, things ain't what they used to be for internationally touring performing artists. It can be a Kafka-esque world out there, but you knew that already...

  1. Excellent article! This situation is deplorable. The end of this article really points out the inevitable results of piling more and more burdensome requirements on foreign artists who wish to perform in US: that managers and presenters won't even assume the increased risk of wading through this cumbersome process. And, more importantly, there will be less exposure to the arts and artists from around the globe. At a time in history when dialogue among cultures and people from different countries is more important than ever, we are being forced to cut-off this essential communications channel. Very sad.
